The BMW Motorcycle Club of Battle Creek (BMW MOA #14 and BMW RA #349)

Founded in 1971, The BMW Motorcycle Club of Battle Creek, Michigan (BCBMW Club), is a fun, family oriented group of people who enjoy riding and talking about BMW motorcycles. Meetings are held the first Saturday of each month (except in January and July).

In addition to monthly meetings and rides (weather permitting), the BCBMW Club sponsors the  Original Mini-Rally  each year in Sturgis, Michigan.

What A Fabulous Weekend for Our
42nd Annual Original Mini-Rally!!!

We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful weekend for the  42nd Annual Original Mini-Rally .  We enjoyed the warmest, sunniest, weekend yet this year.  Nothing beats a great weekend with old and new friends to start the riding season off right.

Thanks to all who attended!  We look forward to seeing you all again next year!

Lunch Ride Report

Tom R. lead 22 riders on a Lunch Ride to the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, MI on Saturday. We always marvel at his ability to keep such a large group together.  Everyone in attendance enjoyed the ride and the excellent display of historic vehicles and memorabilia on display at the museum.

Lunch Ride attendees were surpised by a small EARTHQUAKE while touring the museum, which was later confirmed by the U. S. Geological Survey.  According to reports from various news media, the epicenter was located about 9 miles southeast of Kalamazoo near Galesburg, registered 4.2-magnitude and was reportedly felt in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and Wisconsin.  No injuries or serious damage was reported.

And you thought that rumble was from those 22 Beemers riding by!

The group encountered another surprise when rider Nick invited the entire group to his home for a great meal afterward.

Thanks to Bob B. for sharing this photo of some of the participating bikes parked at Gilmore.

Field Events

Marcie, Jeff and Brian organized plenty of interesting tests in the field event.  Contestants tossed water balloons, dressed up as Pirates and visited the "Road Kill Cafe" for bragging rights and prizes  More than a dozen bikes with single and two-up riders joined in on the fun.

Thanks to Rally Guest Virgil P. for sharing this shot of the water balloon toss, where contestent had to toss the water balloon over the hoop and catch it on the other side (and not get wet).

International Female Ride Day
It was great to see so many women riders participating in International Female Ride Day on Saturday, May 2, 2015 during the 42nd Annual Original Mini Rally.  Motorcycle dealers, manufacturers and others in our community see the positive impact that women have on motorcycling  when the ladies take to the roads for this annual event.  Thanks to those ladies who participated!

Closing Ceremonies
BMW of Battle Creek President, Jim B. presented awards for long distance male rider, long distance female, oldest rider, oldest bike ridden to the rally and oldest rider and bike.

In addition to the many door prizes (donated by many generous businesses and individuals (see rally web page for more details), still more door prizes were drawn and given to lucky winners.

Thanks for Rally Guest Donald M. for sharing this panoramic taken during the closing ceremonies on Saturday evening.

Thank you

A big Thank You to all of the BMW Battle Creek Club members who volunteered during the Original Mini Rally.  Your contributions helped make this an enjoyable weekend for our guests and fellow club members alike!

Announcing the 2015 Club Mileage Contest

Road Captain Max has challenged us to a little history lesson this year!  The mileage contest runs from April 1, 2015 to November 1, 2015, so be sure to get your starting mileage information to Max if you haven't already done so.

Max announced that bonus miles will be awarded for each Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) monument or marker visited during the contest in honor of the 150th anniversary of the end of the American Civil War in 1865.  This is a great opportunity to recall our history, even  if you haven't decided to participate in the mileage contest.  Let's see how many we can find!

Contest rules and guidelines were sent to Club Members in late March, so if you didn't get yours, please see Max S. for details.

Happy Hunting!

Safety Tip of the Month:  Watch Out for Animals

Keep your eyes open for deer and other small animals
It's spring and animals are becoming active after a long, cold winter.

  • Carcasses along the road side may mean that the animals make regular crossings in that area.  Be especially alert in these areas.  Slow down and be ready to take evasive action if needed.

  • Put a little extra distance than normal between yourself and the vehicles ahead of you so that you'll be able to see more of the road head as well as the ditches on either side..

  • Avoid riding at dusk, dawn or after dark if you can avoid it.

  • Keep your eyes open and be ready to take action.

Be safe and have a great ride!
