41st Annual Mini Rally Recap

Spring officially arrived with the 41st Annual Original Mini Rally.  We had a great turn-out despite unseasonably cool temperatures.

Over 100 riders were already on site in time for the Hot Dog dinner on Friday night.  "Wild Hogs" was the perfect Friday Flick for this crowd.

10 riders participated in the lunch ride on Saturday to Saucy Dog's in Jonesville, MI.  They must have known we were coming -- there was even a BOXER on the men's bathroom door!

The sun warmed up the afternoon just in time for the Field Events.  Marcy and her assistants cooked up more new challenges for 2014.  The competition was fierce and the spectators were both entertained and amazed at the skills displayed by both riders and passengers.

We gave away some great door prizes too.  Every child left with a prize and some even earned extra prizes competing in the field events.

The BMW Club of Battle Creek Chefs cooked up a yummy breakfast of pancakes and sausages.  It was a nice treat for the ladies not to have to cook.  Thanks fellows!

If you didn't have this much fun during your first weekend of May this year, then you need to make plans to join us for this fun, family-oriented event in 2015!  Get it on your calendar right now.  It's always the first weekend in May at the Green Valley Campground in Sturgis, MI.

May Club Meeting

The 2014 Original Mini Rally concluded with the BMW Club of Battle Creek May monthly meeting. We reveled in the joy of hosting another successful Mini Rally and immediately turned our attention to the upcoming Vintage Motorcycle Show at the Gilmore Car Museum in June. After all of the business at hand concluded, members gathered for a group photo.

Mileage Contest Begins April 15th

In case you missed the announcement during the April meeting month's meeting, Road Captain Max announced the beginning of the mileage contest.  Be sure to get your beginning odometer readings to Max in the next few days and don't forget to ask for hints about the secret bonus location.  If you add, change or delete bikes during the year, don't forget to let Max know.

Vermontville Maple Syrup Festival - April 26th

One sure sign of spring is the annual Vermontville Maple Syrup Festival.  Vermontville is the place to be for a yummy Saturday breakfast of pancakes and fresh maple syrup.  If you're there around 9:00 AM on Saturday, April 26th, you likely won't be alone.  Thousands of motorcyclists make this the kick-off event of the riding season in Michigan.  Check with Road Captain Max if you're interested in a group ride.

Keep your eyes open for those nasty spring potholes, as the road crews haven't yet attended to some of the more rural roads.  Be safe and have a great ride!

Thank You Gilmore Car Museum

A huge THANK YOU goes out to Mike S. and the good folks at the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, MI for hosting our April meeting.  In addition to enjoying a fantastic pulled pork meal, we completed final plans for the upcoming 41st Annual Original Mini Rally surrounded by an outstanding collection of beautifully preserved automobiles and memorabilia.    Mike opened up one of the galleries in the main building for our viewing pleasure and treated a large group to a tour of the work area.

Don't Let a Little Snow Keep You From 2-Wheeled Fun!

Did you miss **FESTIVUS**  last weekend in Battle Creek?  If so, here's your last chance this year check out the pre-race Numbskull BMW Airhead Sled entry for Festivus 2014.  Believe it or not, this outstanding piece of sliding art is constructed of cardboard.

Here's the BMW Airhead Sled just BEFORE it won the prized "Ingrown Hair Award".

Here's the award-winning run that earned the Ingown Hair Award for the best crash!  Usually it's the RIDER that high-sides, not the MOTORCYCLE!  (Photo by Seth Graves for the Battle Creek Enquirer)

Fall Color Tour 2013

Mother Nature didn't get the memo about the Fall Color Tour, as some parts of the state were drenched with chilly rain on October 20th.  Still, several members of the BMW Club of Battle Creek, the West Michigan BMW Riders, the MidMichigan Touring Club, the Saginaw Valley club and the BMW Touring Club of Detroit attended this 4th Annual Event.

Riders made their way from their home cities along mile after mile of spectacular fall scenery.  It was great to get together with riders from other clubs.  We look forward to participating in this event next year.  It would be great to have more joint events in 2014!

Thanks to Bill H. and the West Michigan BMW Riders for organizing this event again this year.

Campout 2013

If you missed the campout at Camp Fort Hill, you missed a fantastic weekend of fun, friends and feasting.  Connie organized fabulous meals, Marcie planned and judged a camp-themed scavenger hunt and friends gathered around the fire.  Unlike Campout 2012, we enjoyed warm weather and a glimpse of the early fall colors just beginning to emerge.

1st Annual Girlz Ride 2013 - Shipshewana, IN

80% of BMW Club of Battle Creek Women Riders were on hand September 21st for the 1st Annual Girlz Ride to Shipshewana.  We enjoyed the company of a few gentlemen who accompanied wives or escorted their pillian partners.  The ride from Battle Creek to Shipshewana, along lightly traveled roads,,f was enjoyed by all.  We explored the shops and visited the cheese shop on the way to dinner at Essenhaus in Middlebury.

Planning for the 2nd Annual Girls Ride for 2014 is under way.  Let Tracy know if you have ideas for next year's destination!

Joni Loves Chachi

Club members travelled to Cinci in August for a joint gathering with the BMW Club of Cinncinati.   The theme of the festivites was "Joni Loves Chachi" after the famed TV series.  Those in attendance sported period specific costumes and had a great time.  Even the neighbors joined in.

Thanks to Tom and Joni for hosting this fun event!

The 18th Annual Vintage Motorcycle Show & Swap Meet
was a great success!!!

Despite predictions of rain, the day dawned warm and beautiful.  The Gilmore Car Museum provided a perfect setting to showcase a wide range of vintage motorcycles and scooters.

And if the bikes weren't enough, guests were treated to an opportunity to wander through building after building full of automobile history.

In case you missed it, you can enjoy a few of the snapshots below by club members Jim & Tracy S., and a walk-about video contributed by club member, Tom R..
